Yes – We are continuing our Bike Mentoring program during the coronavirus pandemic, but with modifications to ensure everyone stays safe and healthy! For example, the initial meet-up will be conducted via phone, Facetime or Skype rather than in-person. Go ahead and get in touch with us as described below and we’ll get you rolling!
Request a bike mentor! Want to bike to work, the farmers’ market, or that charming cafe you’ve heard about, but not sure how to bike there safely? A bike mentor will help you find the best route, make sure your bike is ready to roll, ride with you, and answer your questions. Go to http://bit.ly/BPACmentoring to be matched with a bike mentor today.

Become a bike mentor! The Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee has launched a bike mentoring program to match less experienced riders with riders who have been biking in Alexandria for years. A mentor will work individually with each mentee to help achieve the mentee’s biking goals – whether that’s learning how to bike commute, getting comfortable biking to the farmers’ market, or figuring out how to bike safely to the nearest trail. If you’re an experienced rider who lives or works in Alexandria, please consider becoming a bike mentor. Sign up at https://goo.gl/forms/x1gzTcQ6kfBXvKb23.
And if you want some additional details – here’s BPAC’s program description document at http://bit.ly/BikeMentoring – it contains expectations and resources for bike mentors, as well as a summary of previous bike mentoring experiences. BPAC launched the program in January 2019 so that the program could be included in the City’s planning for the summer 2019 Metro shutdown, but expect that most of the mentoring will take place when the weather is warmer. Some mentors and mentees have already signed up, and we are prepared to pair folks up now, for those who want an early start. The program is individualized, so there’s a lot of flexibility.
