BPAC kicks off 2022 events with women’s history walk

On Saturday, March 26, BPAC led a group walk to visit women-owned businesses, in celebration of Women’s History Month. About seventeen people gathered on a brisk spring morning for a one-mile walk through Old Town.

During the tour, we learned why Gizem White has been dubbed the Turkish Coffee Lady and talked about the new cafe that she just opened on King Street this past January. We discussed the fearlessness of Carmen Lopez, who at age 28 invested her life savings to open Current Boutique. At fibre space, which the country’s first female vice president, Kamala Harris, also visited in March 2021, we learned how owner Danielle Romanetti turned her childhood hobby into a flourishing business. And we talked about Carol Supplee, the owner of Imagine Artwear, who commissioned a beautiful mural to celebrate Alexandria’s business community.

Here are a few photos from the walk:

If you would like to do a self-guided version of our 2022 women’s history walk, a guide to the route and stops is availableĀ here.

Many thanks to the BPAC volunteers and community partners who helped plan and publicize the walk!
