On Sunday, September 26, BPAC organized a group walk to enjoy Del Ray’s colorful murals. About twelve people — and one special canine guest — gathered near The Garden and then did a one-mile stroll along Mount Vernon Avenue.
During the tour, we saw five murals by C.E. Brady and learned about his first commercial job, at St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub; discussed how artist Rives Wiley incorporated Japanese influences for her sunset-themed mural at Kaizen Tavern; talked about the 300 hours that Patrick Kirwin spent painting the Dogs of Del Ray (and even met one of the dogs portrayed on the wall!); and learned about how local artists and youth teams collaborated during the 2010 Art on the Avenue festival to create the mural at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center.
If you would like to do a self-guided version of our 2021 Del Ray murals walk, a guide to the route and stops is availableĀ here.
Below are a few photos from the walk.
Many thanks to the volunteers who helped spread the word about the event!
