Take action now for a better Alexandria

Alexandria has made a commitment to Complete Streets and Vision Zero. That is a big deal. However, there is still more work to be done. On Seminary Road, vehicle speeds remain unsafe despite stepped up enforcement, and there are no facilities for pedestrians and bicyclists. It’s unsafe at any speed.

But that could change.

On March 25th, the City of Alexandria Transportation staff unveiled options to rebuild a section of Seminary Road east of N. Howard Street to protect pedestrians, bicyclists, and just make a safer, more livable corridor for everyone.

City staff proposed three alternatives on their project website—Of those plans, BPAC supports Alternative 3 because it will reduce excessive vehicle speeds and provide safe pedestrian crossings without causing congestion for other road users. Alternative 3 also enables buffered bike lanes. But opposition to any change is fierce.

Take action now!

The city is soliciting feedback now through April 10th. Look at the presentation materials on the project website to see the different alternatives. If you live, work, or travel in Alexandria—review the plans, Take the Survey, and support Alternative 3 as the best option to make Seminary Road a safe corridor for all road users.
